Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What changes are being made to IELTS?
IELTS is moving to computer based only testing to provide a faster, more efficient and streamlined testing experience. IELTS on paper will no longer be available from mid 2026. Test takers in selected locations will be able to choose the new Writing on Paper option when they book the IELTS test on computer.
What is Writing on Paper?
When a test taker chooses Writing on Paper, they will receive the Writing component tasks on computer and will be provided with an IELTS Writing Answer Sheet and a pen to complete the Writing tasks on paper.
Will the content of the test change?
No, the re will be no changes to the test construct, question types or scoring. Apart from the delivery mode, the IELTS test will remain the same.
How do I book Writing on Paper?
Writing on Paper will be available to book from mid 2026. More information will be available soon.
What is provided for special arrangements / accessibility requirements?
To ensure fair access, we will continue with our current Access Arrangements offer for IELTS on computer and One Skills Retake. This includes large print, braille and hearing impaired test versions. Likewise, other Access Arrangements that are currently pr ovided on paper that cannot currently be delivered digitally.
